RIVER and BROOKSTREAM LOACHES
NOTE: All catfish and loaches are quarantined and given a course of treatment consisting of antibiotic and dewormer before being sold. This ensures that our fish are free from diseases common in wild caught fish.

Reaches 3.5" A territorial species that should be provided with numerous hiding places amongst bogwood, plants, rocky caves and cobbles. When keeping more than one specimen it is important to create visual barriers between each hiding place. Ideally, these loaches should be provided with brook/hillstream aquarium conditions incorporating a high flow rate and well oxygenated water. Will eagerly accept most aquarium foods offered - sinking catfish pellets, flake, frozen foods such as mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, Daphnia etc. pH: 6-7.5, Hardness: soft and slightly acidic is best. Max dh: 12. Temperature 70ºF to 79ºF (from Loaches Online)

Burmese Redtail Batik Loach

Acanthocobitis rubidipinnis

Ideal for a large (50 gallons+) brook loach tank, A. rubidipinnis is a very active bottom feeder/scavenger, with extremely long barbels. The fish uses these at quite high speed to examine any and all crevices, substrate, etc., for morsels of food. Like most loaches, they can be timid and will require a dense decor of rounded river rocks and bog wood over rounded sand or fine gravel. Very high water aeration and circulation is called for, and the water should be changed (up to 50% at a time) weekly. This loach is best kept in groups of three, by themselves in a mixed brook loach tank, or in a species tank in higher numbers.  Reaches 5" TL. Temp 68ºF to 78ºF, pH: aim for neutral 7.0 or slightly acidic 6.8; Hardness: medium; Maximum DH: <12. (from Loaches Online)

Marbled Hog Loach (India)
Lepidocephalus thermalis

$5 each   3/$13.50   6/$24.00

Kuhli Loach
Pangio
cf. kuhli

All kuhlis need well-established aquaria and should not be considered for newly set up tanks. Lots of hiding places with soft substrate. Best kept in groups, the larger the better. Three fish is the absolute minimum that should be kept together. Easily fed. Accepts good quality flake, sinking pellets, thawed frozen bloodworm, Mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, etc.
Water parameters: pH: 6.2-6.8. Hardness: Medium Soft to Medium. Max dh: 10 Temperature: 78 - 82ºF (25.5 - 28ºC). Reaches 4". (From Loaches Online)

Queen Loach
Botia dario

Queen loaches are very social fishes. Numerous shelters should be provided which gives them the feeling of greater security and generally makes them bolder. Like most bottom-dwellers the substrate should consist of a fine-grained or round-edged gravel. pH:6.8-7.5. Hardness:Soft to medium. Max dh:12.0. Temperature: 75ºF to 82ºF. Reaches ~6" TL.   (from Loaches Online)

$5 each   3/$13.50   6/$24.00

Indian Zebra Loach--XL
Botia striata

A peaceful, active, shoaling species that should be maintained in groups of 5 or more in the community aquarium. Keep on a fine sandy substrate in order to protect the delicate sensory barbel area, and ensure that there are plenty of hiding places in the aquarium amongst bogwood, caves, and plants. Clean, well-aerated water is a must. Soft and slightly acidic is best. pH: 7.0 or below, dH: <12 degrees. (from Loaches Online)

$7 each   3/$18.00   6/$30.00

Burmese Striped Loach
Botia histronica

This is a relatively placid member of the genus Botia. Gregarious and curious, they are well suited to the community tank, but should be kept in numbers of 3 to 5 or more. Unlike a number of other Botia species, B. histrionica will be seen more regularly in the daytime if given ample hiding spots, a large aquarium (minimum 60 gallons, but larger tanks will see more activity), and the clean water that suits other Botiine loaches. (From Loaches Online)

Cobitis Loach
Lepidocephalus guntea

The keeping dojo loaches can be expensive since they are a cold-water species, requiring some type of chiller being placed on the tank to maintain a suitable temperature. Many also get large, and thus not suitable for a typical community tropical tank. For those interested in this type of loach, the solution is Guntea; a smaller and tropical loach, very similar to Dojo's. Reaches about 5" TL.
